Cascading Style Sheets

Used to manipulate and easily manage the design of a website. Abbreviation: CSS
2.

Click popularity

The technique of measuring the relevence of search results by monitoring user behaviour from the search results. If more users click on a search result, that result is considered more popular. If users click on a result and return to the SERPs within a short period, the site is viewed as less popular by the Search Engine. This relevence or popularity is considered by search engines to order their Search Results for different Search terms.

Click Rate

Same as CTR, Click Through Rate. The ratio of impressions shown to the number of clicks.

Click Through Rate

The ratio of impressions shown to the number of clicks.

Click-Through

A click on a link that leads to another website.
6.

Click-Tracking

The use of scripts in order to track clicks on inbound and outbound links from a website.
7.

Cloaking

Delivering highly optimized content to specific crawlers/spiders. This is generally used to trick spiders into seeing optimized content and is considered Black Hat SEO.
8.

Clustering

Grouping of results from one domain under one listing in search engine results pages. Usually, search engines display 2 results from the same site, followed by a link for 'More results from this site'.

Clustering engine

A search engine which automatically groups search results into related themes. Some examples of Clustering engines are Vivisimo and Prisma.

Comment Tag

A tag in HTML that is invisible unless viewed through the source code.

Content Targeted Ad

CTA refers to the placement of relevant PPC ads on content pages for non-search engine websites.
12.

Conversion Rate

The relationship between visitors to sales or actions. If 1 person out of 100 purchases a sites product, it has a conversion rate of 1 to 100.
13.

Conversions

If a user clicks on an ad and proceeds to make a purchase of a product or carry out the desired action in the same session, it is calloed a conversion.
14.

Copywriter

A person hired or employed to write advertising or publicity copy.
15.

Copywriting

Also known as business writing, copywriting is any writing that sells a product or service or increases the chances of converting users to customers by promoting the product or service. Copywriting is essential for websites trying to sell products through their site or through emails.

Cost per Action

Where you pay for a specified action such as a purchase.
17.

Cost per Click

With this you are charged for every click your link on someone's website receives.
18.

Cost per Lead

Where you pay for a lead i.e. if someone does something.
19.

Cost per Thousand

Where you pay for each 1000 impressions. Abbreviation: CPM
20.

Counter

A program or script that counts hits/visits to a page.
21.

CPA

Cost per Action. Where you pay for a specified action such as a purchase.
22.

CPC

Cost per Click. With this you are charged for every click your link on someone's website receives.
23.

CPL

Cost per Lead. Where you pay for a lead i.e. if someone does something.
24.

CPM

Cost per Thousand. Where you pay for each 1000 impressions.
25.

Crawler

A program that goes through websites and gathers information for the crawler's creator.
26.

Cross Linking

The procress of multiple sites linking to each other in order to inflate link popularity and improve results. Many search engines have started penalizing cross-linking.
27.

CSS

Cascading Style Sheets. Used to manipulate and easily manage the design of a website.
28.

CTA

Content Targeted Ad. CTA refers to the placement of relevant PPC ads on content pages for non-search engine websites.

CTR

Click Through Rate. The ratio of impressions shown to the number of clicks.
