| 14. | SpammingAn attempt to feed misleading information to search engines in order to gain favourable positioning. Spamming techniques usually lead to the website to a ban on the search engines. |
| 15. | SpiderA program that visits and downloads specific informaiton from a webpage. Also known as a Crawler. |
| 16. | Spider TrapA spider trap is anything that would prevent a spider from crawling your page or site. If a spider can't crawl through your site, the site won't get indexed. |
| 17. | Splash PageAn introduction page that is used for branding purposes before the user reaches the home page. |
| 18. | Sponsored ListingsListings within search engine results pages which have been paid for by advertising sites. The best examples of Sponsored listings are Pay Per Click listings, offered by Google, Yahoo and Overture. |
| 19. | Stop WordStop words are words that are ignored by search engines when indexing web pages and processing search queries. Also known as 'Filter Words'. |
